For a Filipina who lives in Connecticut, it's quite challenging to access Filipino food, especially in Fairfield county area, where I live. Non-Filipino Asian stores in my state, carry very little inventory of authentic Pinoy food items. I used to drive over an hour each way just to get to Woodside section of Queens, NY, and satisfy my craving for Pinoy foods. With the continuously rising gas prices and consumer commodities, these trips have become less and less frequent, but my craving has not ceased. Last December, my sister who lives in California, informed me that Seafood City had just launched their online ordering system. I was so thrilled, because although I have been the US for over 30 years, I still miss Filipino foods. These comfort foods remind me so much of when I was growing up in Manila, so one can just imagine what it was like to receive such great news! This past December, I had the pleasure of placing my first online order on Seafood City's website. They offered free delivery for purchases of $100 and up. I ordered queso de bola, jarred tuyo, mango balls, fresh baked goods, among other things. The delivery didn't take long, however, baked items were on back order due to the timing when I placed the order. Apparently, the best time to order their baked goods was on a Monday. Nevertheless, when I finally received them on a separate shipping, it was well worth the wait. They were so scrumptious! My online shopping experience with Seafood City was very pleasurable. The only thing that I hope is that they would offer more food choices online. I'll definitely order from them again. Instead a long distance trip to a Filipino grocery store, I'll bring the store to my home through Seafood City website.
